Merry Xmas everyone! Image

I am new to the forum and I'd really appreciate your input.

As we are expecting a new member to our family we decided to go for a QQ. Our budget is £11K and we're looking for a car (diesel) with no more than 35K miles.
I am torn between the following two options:
Go for a J11A (66 or 17 plate) with a more premium trim such as n-connect with glass roof etc, or for a J11B accenta (67 plate) with slightly less miles on the clock? Mechanically I know they are almost identical (correct me if i'm wrong) but what about the interior? Has Nissan upped the assembly standards on the newer version?

Also, if I go for the J11B
1. will I be able to use the steering wheel buttons with an aftermarket infotainment system such as the Dasaita one?
2. Is there a 360 camera kit that i could install retrospectively? If so could you please suggest a kit?
3. If a full 360 camera kit is not feasible, would any rear-view camera be compatible with said Dasaita infotainment system?

Apologies if this is off-topic. Wasn;t sure if it belongs to the introductions or the technical section.

Cheers,
Nick

Welcome to this forum

Are you looking at a 1.5 or 1.6 diesel? The former has a cam-belt which needs changing at 5 years/72,000 miles (some places state 60k or 90k) whereas the latter has a cam-chain that won't need changing until about 175,000 miles.

The engines didn't change until ad-blue technology was incorporated probably after your selected time period.

If you want auto then it will have to be the 1.6 and it's the potentially problematic CVT Xtronic. The DCT gearbox was more recently fitted to the 1.5 but probably after your selected time period.

I have lots of PDF brochures if you want one - state the date. We don't have a files facility unfortunately on here so I haven't been able to upload.

In respect of your infotainment questions I suggest you wade through the long topics elsewhere on here but:
1. yes
2. never heard of one
3. you can certainly couple in a rear camera but not necessarily "any" one I'd have thought. Best to source an original Qashqai one to fit in the numberplate recess as intended.

By the way 360 is GREAT !!!!! Makes parking SO much easier! Although my Tekna had Park Assist I never used it - far too slow!

Thank you for all this info! I had no idea about the cam-bel/cam-chain difference.

I was mostly looking at a 1.5l diesel as I cannot find a 1.6l that fits the rest of my criteria (max mileage, price, age). However, since the 5 years of any potential 1.5 engine are fast approaching (looking for 66, 17 or 67 plates) it means an additional £500 cost to get the cam-belt replaced. It's better to add this amount to my budget and get the 1.6 version.

Auto would be nice but it usually exceeds my budget.

Thanks for the tip.
360 does make a huge difference. I forgot to mention but my father owns the latest n-connecta J11B and I was also surprised at how easy it makes parking.

As well as not having heard of a 360 kit, I don't recall anyone retrofitting 360 even using original parts

Hello again and happy new year!

New year update: I bought a 2016 Tekna (16 plate - 1.6 diesel engine) from Big Motoring World and collected it just yesterday.
Due to Covid I was not allowed to test drive it but was given a 7-day money back guarantee.
Car looks and drives great!
I got the car checked by a Nissan Dealership and they found that the timing chain cover is leaking and the horn needs replacement as it's not loud enough! The estimated cost to fix is £950 and £250 respectively!
The car has only 27k miles. How can it be facing timing-chain issues so fast (not worried/care about the horn)?
Is it worth to repair it and ask for compensation from the seller or should I return it and run as fast as possible?
Cheers

1.6 R9M timing chain covers are known for leaking from factory, sometimes they leak abit later on in their life but ones they've been done and done properly then you shouldnt have the issue again, I just think the people for machines that apply the sealant to the covers are a little bit shy with the amount they apply to the lower section of the timing cover.

The costs sound excessive!

I'd certainly report them to the selling dealer, and see what they say. I guess you paid around £11k? (Pure guess)

The horn's never loud enough - you can sort that yourself for less than £20 - can't imagine how they can justify £250!

e.g. £7.95 here https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-NEW-LOUD ... 1749970828 (though I might spend a little more than that!)

EDIT - adding the BEFORE view with the original horn:
