I use the adaptive cruise control most of the time on motorways and after about five thousand miles have found a couple of shortcomings.

There are three distance settings, adjustable on the steering wheel with the rest of the cruise control settings. I find three is too far away from the car in front, two is also a bit too far and one is too close. I normally end up on setting two, but often feel that I'm using up too much road in heavy traffic. I don't like setting one because I feel its uncomfortably close to the car in front! I need a setting 1 1/2! Come on Nissan, give us a finer adjustment!

The other issue is when changing lane or going round a motorway bend, too often the system gets badly confused. It sometimes appears to see the past the vehicle in front or see the vehicle in the next lane resulting in inappropriate acceleration and braking which at best is unnerving for following drivers or at worst dangerous. I now know to cancel and subsequently resume the cruise control in these circumstances.

I make these comments with the experience of the adaptive cruise control on a Volvo XC60 which had infinite gap adjustment and did not suffer as much confusion. However, I do understand the Volvo costs a lot more, so this is not so much a complaint as a comment!

Foffer, interesting comments on the ProPILOT system. Living in Berlin I have only used the system on new Two Laned Roads (Autobahn) without the wife as it’s a No No from her and I have found the system to be pleasing. I agree that the Distance settings could possibly be a bit finer but in general it does work especially if you play with the 3 settings and definitely it reacts if somebody slots in between, braking and re-accelerating. I have also noticed the Steering does get a bit corrective on curves but again it is posibly a learning curve, it does make Driving a little more relaxing until you let the pressure of the Wheel and you get the Alarms. 😮
I have attached some Nissan Comments regarding the Steering which you might have seen, but they could be worth a read.

Now there are lots of criticisms about Nissan but my brother was a bit “Stinky” last week as Alfa Romeo have just updated his new Stelvio SUV to include guess what the Alfa ProPILOT System and we only have a QQ 😋 - Dave 😊

Just wondered if anyone knows whether when the intelligent cruise slows the car down does it show the brake lights or would the brake lights come on only if it was a sharp reduction in speed?

Qashpad, I would like to find this also in black and white. When you use ProPILOT depending on the 3 set distances the Braking effect is very controlled nothing drastic which I would assume would not affect vehicles behind. If a vehicle slots in between depending on the 3 setting distance and a Hard Braking is carried out then I would assume the Rear Brake Lights would show - Dave 😊

I forgot to mention what I think is the best reason for having the Intelligent Cruise Control, traffic jams!

Most of the time in the heavy traffic stop - start type of jams the ICC does it all for you saving all the footwork! You only have to do something if the car comes to a stop for more than a few seconds, when you have to touch the resume button or the accelerator to get going again.

I've only experienced adaptive cruise control in the office Golf but that certainly has more settings than three. I'd think about 5 or 6? Certainly it's not difficult getting a setting with the right distance on that car.

Gloucester, it looks like the VW Golf has 5 options as against the QQ’s 3, you just need to adjust and get used to the setting distances when using - Dave 😉
