I have the AA CarGenie device connected to the OBD2 port on my 2019 Qashqai 1.3-DIG Acenta Premium which sends driver rating information to an app on my Android phone.

All is well, with my Eco Score stats being around about 90% for speed, braking, acceleration and idling. The only bugbear is that after a short journey, I regularly get a text alert saying that Power has dropped and needs charging. Drive for 30 minutes to restore charge or connect to a suitable battery charger.

The AA even called me to say that they were seeing all the alerts and could they help?

The problem is that I only get one alert for each trip and it doesn't happen if I do a longer trip (difficult in lockdown) or charge the battery. When I check the battery immediately after I receive the alert, it shows no problems and is healthy with a charge greater than 11.5 volts.

Is it possible that on switching the car off after a journey, the voltage will drop below a threshold for a short time and then recover to have a charge over 11.5 volts?

The vehicle was first registered March 2019 and has now done just 10700 miles.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Richard

No idea really what exactly this Genie thing is doing as regards Battery monitoring...other than sending data streams to the AA? If its battery volts threshold then I suppose the AA might get the wind up if the Batt drops below 12v. Multiple short journeys will drain a battery and OBD will likely see anything down to about 11.2v, and that is unreliability coming your way. STOP/START vehicles aggravate Batt health and can drive User frustration.

There shouldn't be any Batt leakage when the car is OFF.

12.5v is the general reliable (use) threshold for car Batts. Somewhere in your System menus you should see Batt status and keep an eye on that especially doing short journeys + STOP/START.

Hi Calnorth

Is

12.5v is the general reliable (use) threshold for car Batts.

With engine off, power on just to run the radio display and nothing else ?

cheers

Yep...about that figure. If often below (say 11.5-ish) it is a failing Batt or not being charged fully.
