Nissan extended warranty.

I am considering purchasing a Nissan extended warranty as I have the 1.2 petrol which may suffer from oil loss problems. At the moment the car has travelled approx. 4,500mls in the last year. The car has done 25000 miles and from the last service approx. 4500 miles has used about 4mm of oil on the dipstick. What I would like to know is will the Nissan extended warranty cover this problem (should it arise) because if it doesn't then their quote of £519 per year is not worth having.

Thanks for any replies.

My opinion for what it’s worth is you have both the 1.2 petrol engine and the CVT gearbox which both have their problems documented on here with high costs to repair, peace of mind if you have the warranty, when I asked dealer regarding extending my warranty I was told it was around £400 but don’t have that in writing so dealer may have got it wrong.

I documented my problems re getting quotes for extended warranty on this topic - viewtopic.php?f=21&t=5645

I was quoted £377 for a year - admittedly over two years ago - and that was higher than others had been quoting. Perhaps Nissan have woken up to people claiming and hiked the price!

It should be covered according to https://www.nissan.co.uk/ownership/niss ... ranty.html but the only way you'll know for certain is getting the "small print" and reading through it.

Ultimate

Our highest level of cover protecting the majority of factory fitted, mechanical and electrical components on your vehicle (for Nissan vehicles aged 3–7 years old, having covered no more than 75,000 miles).

Premium

Offers a comprehensive range of component cover against mechanical and electrical failure (for Nissan vehicles aged 7–10 years old, having covered no more than 100,000 miles).

Thanks for the replies. I think after Christmas I will phone the warranty dept. and see if I can get them to clarify. If successful I will relay what I learn on this post.

O.K. I've now been in touch with Nissan warranty people and I am still not sure wether to take out this extended policy.

The guy I spoke to said that if a problem occurred with oil loss the car would have an extensive check by my main dealer and also a technician from Nissan. I cannot remember everthing he said but I ended the call feeling that if there was a way for them to wriggle out of a claim then they would. He talked about piston and piston ring wear not being covered as that is classed as general wear. Also, I think he said the same for valves.

My point being, they could blame the oil loss on anything inside the engine (not leaks as they normally can be seen) and I would not have a clue what they had or hadn't found. So, as you can see, still undecided.

I had the same dilemma when my 2017 1.2 CVT was nearly three years old. We had no problems with the car and liked it, but the much publicised problems with oil loss from the 1.2 engine and the CVT issues made me very nervous about keeping it. I added up all the future costs such as the warranty, MOT, full service and a new tyre and decided to just go for a new one with the 1.3 petrol engine and the new auto box. We got a very good trade in and an excellent deal which was better than the Carwow offer that we got from another main dealer.

My warranty expires in May and I don't think I can take the risk on a 1.2 CVT.
So it's either 1.3 auto or a complete change.
Toyota's 5 year warranties are looking attractive at the moment along with the hybrid SUVs!

Just found this paragraph in the Nissan Extended Warranty online PDF.

Design Faults and recalls.

If any of the Vehicle’s components has an inherent design fault or is recalled by its manufacturer, the component which is the subject of the design fault or recall is not covered by this warranty.

I interpret that as being a cop out as regards to replacing a 1.2 DIG-t engine due to the excessive oil use.

Would be interested to know how other people interpret this clause.

Thanks.

I'm no expert on that engine but I have read of people on here and on the Juke forum getting rebuilds and replacement engines under warranty

MikeGC. I assume you are talking about the warranty supplied with new cars. Nissan extended the warranty for the 1.2 DIG-t engine from 3 to 5 years but the warranty I am looking at is the extended one from 5years up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
