Hi guys

I’m after a replacement bolt for the rear caliper carrier on my J10. I know it’s 17mm but don’t know the length does anyone know where I can get a replacement?

Also, I’m after replacement hex screws for the trim under the sills that hold the rear mud flaps in place (not the ones around the wheel arch)

Thanks!

For something as simple as a bolt on a crucial safety aspect isn't a dealer the best bet for getting the right part?

For the flaps though I'd just investigate my toolbox...

Just as Gloucester has mentioned a “Bolt is a Bolt” but it is a safer option to obtain the correct bolt when Brake related. You mention a “17mm Bolt” do you mean the Thread Size or the Hexagon Size A/F Dimensions of the Bolt. Normally an M17 Bolt is a Non-Std - Dave 😉

No it isn't, brakes tend to use high tensile ones, with Loctite on the threads

Well...

I actually said "For something as simple as a bolt on a crucial safety aspect isn't a dealer the best bet for getting the right part?" - or in other words something as small as a bolt might as well be sourced from a dealer since the cost saving of trying to go elsewhere isn't worth the potential time wasted and the risk of not getting the right part.

Phatboy, “I mentioned a “Bolt is a Bolt” but it is a safer option to obtain the correct bolt when Brake related.”
OK perhaps what I stated was a “Slip of the Tongue” but it was my comment and not Gloucester’s, but the comment was also there to use the correct Brake related part. I was in the Engineering Game so I am aware of the differences - Dave 🤨

Sorry it wasn't a dig at you or Gloucester, just a note for the casual reader, who may be considering getting a bolt at B&Q or wherever!

So does anyone know the answer? What’s the head size? What’s the three, what’s the length?

Have you not been able to measure the bolt after you took it off ??

I do not know if the person got the bolt as that is over a year.
Best going to scrap yard for another one or buying new at the dealer, it would not cost more than £5.
