MP4 is for Video and Audio
MP3 is for Audio only
MP3 is for Audio only
If you use MP3 and embed the artwork as part of the ID tags then the album cover, or whatever you have loaded as artwork, will be displayed on the screen alongside the track information.
MP4's will not play on the system.
