Hi I have a Qashqau Acenta Smart DEG-T CVT (auto) and I'm struggling getting used to going down steep hills. The car just seems to accelerate madly and I am touching the brakes way before other drivers or how I was used to driving with my Saab 9-3 auto. Getting to the point I want to avoid hill! Thanks

CVT doesn’t seem to be good at engine breaking.
Carry on using the brake pedal ?

Do you have the speed recognition turned on? My 2014 CVT will engine brake going down hill. You could also set cruise control to the speed limit, that will also use engine braking on down hill sections. CVT, by is nature and build, will allow engine braking but at much lower "gears" and may not even be noticeable at first, look at the rev counter and see if that is increasing on down hill sections.
Past cars Mercedes B Class, S Class, E Class Estate, E Class Coupe, G Wagen, 260E interspersed with Peugeot 406 and Audi Coupe.
