Apple CarPlay icon won't respond when pressed

My Apple CarPlay stopped working. Connection is via USB.

Had a similar issue before and it righted itself after I updated the onboard software and deleted some data on the iPhone (thinking it maybe needed some space to work), "forgot" the connection, switched the phone off and back on... something in there fixed it but I don't know what.

However, after a recent car service, the problem has returned. When I connect the phone via the USB port, the CarPlay icon, bottom left on the screen, refuses to activate when pressed.

Anyone else had this issue and found a fix?

PS It's a Nissan QashQai 2021 model

I’m also having trouble with CarPlay.
That seems to have coincided with the upgrade to iOS 16.1 on my iPhone 13
There’s a good number of folk on t’internet who are reporting the same problem.
The CarPlay page sometimes opens but resolutely refuses to open Apple Maps or Google Maps.
I my mind it’s an Apple fault, yours sounds like it might be something else - sorry if that’s muddied the waters for you

Think I've solved it.

Had ExpressVPN app running on my iPhone. Switched it off and Apple CarPlay now working again.

Had similar issue on Safari on my MacBook Pro so wondering if later iOS upgrades don't like it if non Apple VPNs are running in the background.

Whilst being aware that I, sort of, hijacking this thread…
I've looked at VPN & device management in Settings and it says Not Connected and Sign in, etc.
So, I don’t think I have a VPN but I guess I’ll check when I get in the car to see if it’s something that I haven’t noticed happening in the background.

Welcome to the forum, ficklegross

My CarPlay fixed itself with the latest iOS update.
Your signature says you drive a J10B - I don’t think CarPlay was ever available on that model.
If you have an aftermarket headunit which enables CarPlay you might want to say which one you have installed.
