The article is interesting but not fully correct. Ecotricity now charge and if you've a slow-charging car and it's a range extender it's potentially cheaper to use petrol!

Yes, I think the article drifted off the point. I think Ecotrictity charge circa. £5 per 20 minutes, so to leave your car connected for an hour or more (for most EV's) would be very expensive. I think the "charge-rage" term actually refers to ICE drivers parking in EV bays.

Not far wrong...Ecotricity now charge £6 for a 30 min rapid charge session, however for most rapid charge enabled cars that can get you from near 0% charge to 80/85%. In fact, you get most of the charge in the first 15 mins and it then slows down as it nears capacity....if however you use Ecotricity as your energy supplier at home you get 52 free charges a year so given most journeys are less than the average EV range the majority of drivers charge at home and only use these as a top up. Nearly all EV's though are connected via Apps and the car will tell you when the session has ended or it is fully charged and 'EV etiquette' is that you'd then move your car off the charge point to free it up - you can see before you get there is the charge point is in use anyhow via Zapmap or the sat nav system in some...I have an i3 ReX and it costs about £10 to fill the range extender tank and for that I can get 89 miles but it's not quite as clear cut as that. The car recharges as it brakes and is affected by temperatures - this can add/remove 10/20 miles over that distance (depending on driving style and hills). That said if I was to run the battery and petrol from full to zero the mpg calculates out at circa 470mpg which ain't too shoddy :-)

Really enjoyed test driving the leaf last year. Would have gone for it but I was vetoed by the rest of the family.

They suffered from - "range anxiety" - "charge rage" - "engine silence phobia" and "refuelling boredom".

I didn't stand a chance.
