I work in the Sunderland plant and could probably point you in the right direction.

Alot of the cars that are on the production line are already bought and paid for, they generally dont have alot of pre-made cars just sitting about for the QQ. The ones that they do have pre-made tends to be the accenta's. Lead times are getting better, sunderland is no longer the only plant producing the QQ. It's produced in 4 plants, St Petersberg, Sunderland, Valladolid in spain and there is one in China. All UK models are made in sunderland. They are moving the 1.2 basic spec QQ on to the second production line along side the Juke and the Infiniti Q30 to try and help with the demand for the car.

Usually 12 weeks is a good estimate.

As for taking 2 weeks to get to kent, that can be explained. NMUK export 80% of cars produced. Most cars when they are still just data on the computer have had their space booked onto the RORO ferry and thus the car transport trucks that take it the 10 minute journey to the port of tyne. If a car fails to be produced in time for it's slot on the ferry the company looses money on that space, the majority of the cars are taken to the port of tyne and re-distrubuted nationwide (and world wide) from there. The issue with the sunderland plant is that they can only take upto 8 cars at a time on the wagons that leave the plant, thats why they run 24/7. There is no rail transport unlike the Mini plant in oxford where it is easier, cheaper and quicker to move the cars to the port. Logistically it is a nightmare, over 510,000 cars rolls off that production line each year. It takes time to get the cars nationwide, it is the most popular x-over vehicle in the world at the minute. Every man and his dog wants one. Thats why it takes so long to get it from sunderland to kent.

The autos are more popular with the european markets, manual is still by far the most popular gear box in the UK. They have to mix the models which come down the line for various reasons, mostly because certain models require a few more seconds of work for each car. If they send too many tekna's down the line more mistakes will occur and the line will potentially stop. Every station has what is know as a "skip car" where by there is slightly less work to do and gives you a chance to catch up and get back upto speed again. But it is only a matter of seconds. QQ runs at roughly 52-53 seconds per man. Put it in comparison to some cars, it's roughly half the time that alot of other manufacturers use. The roof is brilliant, my kids love the stars and moon on the night time, what a way to see it!

Great info!
Nice to hear that the QQ is being also manufactured in other plants europeanwide!
Seems that Sunderland cannot cope with all the workload thus the too many quality problems
