I've had Audi's and Ford's with in built satnav - I don't remember either charging for updates but may have forgotten. Do other manufacturers use compatible Here maps and offer the card at a more reasonable price, or free, that could be used?

It's customised for Nissan's (Bosch) Connect system; think you'll find all manufacturers charge arm & a leg, even if they use TomTom system, it'll be proprietary version that can only be updated through manufacturer.

I have had many company cars over the last 30 years.
My last 2 both had built in SAT Navs, as does my QQ
Both were using Navteq Map data.
Once I registered on the Navteq web site with the cars VIN number and put in my address, I received DVD updates automatically through the post free of charge.
Only allowed 2 x free updates during the life of the car, then after at a reduced cost.
For info the cars were Volvo and Vauxhall.
I have a 65 plate QQ Tekna and have resorted to using a mobile phone to use as a SAT Nav using Google maps ,as the traffic updates are far more accurate then the Nissan connect which seem non-existent.
I have the SAT setup to auto update route but never does.
I find the traffic info so out of date that it cannot be relied upon.

I picked up my 16 plate QQ this morning :D

Its still got the 2013 maps :( - although from taking a run today, it covers some roads around Glasgow I might not have expected it to show.

I raised the new maps with the salesman (thanks to the folks here for the tip off!) - they don't yet have newer maps, but will swap out my SD card free of charge if new maps are released in the next 3 months - so hopefully the new maps get to them in that time frame.

I've been really impressed with the dealer (Taggarts in Motherwell) - great communications, matched or bettered anything they've committed to on prices, dates or equipment and took plenty of time to make it feel like i really mattered to them, both when I bought the car and when I picked it up.

It would be useful to hear if anyone gets the new 2016 maps from their dealer.

btw i found this ebay part. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-Nissan- ... Z7&vxp=mtr
Some interesting questions.:
It has the same numbers as the EU versions. Is it possible to change units and use the more advanced USA firmwares? Is it possible to use the EU maps on a USA device.
If so...

Gel, it shouldn't be a problem to swap US unit in to EU car, but you will lose DAB/DAB+ radio and you won't fully utilize US Connect as it is equipped with Sirius XM satellite receiver which transmits only on US/CA part of globe. US Connect uses SiriusXM Satellite radio instead of DAB/DAB+.
US Connect apps are using SiriusXM Travel link service (paid), which if I'm not wrong powers on with internet connection SiriusXM Weather, NavTraffic/SiriusXM Traffic, SiriusXM Low Fuel Prices + other applications. SD card with map data should be supported if you put European card in it.

Okay, usefull insights. Thanks!
Losing the DAB is a showstopper. Remains the question if the USA firmware with more options like, voice control, could be added to the EU version. It looks as if the hardware is almost the same.

I think not. It is part of the firmware which is useless if you have no source code. However, if there is any skilled hacker on the forum, I can pass the current D302 firmware so he can try brake in to.
