As you can see on the diagram, BCM trigger goes to S/S switch which is shorted to the ground when pressed: In idle state, there is 12V (supplied out of BCM) and 0V when S/S switch is pressed: Here is principle diagram of how it works: timing chart:
Project: Reversing / Disabling Stop/Start feature
I played a bit with an idea how to reverse Stop/Start feature to achieve that it's disabled by default with driver's ability to turn it ON whenever needed. The goal is to achieve:

With the latest S/S module version, it works like there was S/S switch and no button installed directly from the factory, by means that it memorises the last S/S state and keeps it always as selected by the driver.
How it works:
- If you wish to keep S/S disabled, when ignition is ON or the engine is running, just press S/S button once in order to disable Stop/Start. The module will remember your preference and will deactivate S/S after every engine restart.
- If you decide to keep S/S activated and turn this mod OFF (as it was designed by the manufacturer), just press S/S button once again to activate Stop/Start (ignition need to be ON or engine must be running). The module will remember your preference and will not act and thus S/S feature will remain functional i.e. active on each engine restart.

S/S Module Installation instructions:
1. Dismantle the lower instruction panel
2. Disconnect blue connector from S/S switch
3. Unbind textile tape from disconnected cabling on the whole its length (approx. 10 cm) including the factory made joint (in my case the joint was insulated with blue plastic insulation tape)
4. Cut S/S module wires to appropriate length and connect black S/S module wire - to uninsulated factory joint on black wire
5. Connect white S/S module wire - to red wire on existing cabling
6. Connect red S/S module Piggy-Back fuse holder to 5A fuse located on the 3rd position (marked as METER_IG)
7. Stick S/S module with 3M double side tape to main white connector and bind S/S cabling with TESA automotive textile tape as it was originally and plug blue S/S connector back to S/S switch. This is the final "look" with module installed. It is barely visible that any mod was done
8. Mantle the lower instruction panel back on to its original location
Here you can download S/S installation manual for Qashqai J11 and X-Trail T32:

I'm sure I have a button that allows me to turn off stop/start?I haven'y played with it yet as I don't have any problems with stop/start at the moment. next time I get chance, I'll take a pic.its on the panel alongside the button to turn off the parking sensors, lane departure warning, below and to the right of the steering column (RHD vehicle).Perhaps it's not what I think it is?

Nissan no more...
I would love to offer my help, but I lack a volt meter (my last one died and I never replaced it!), but also having a new born to look after changes your priorities a bit!

I will continue with this "project" in March upon my return.

This modification from Dan will highly likely work as Dan does seem to have a way with Electronics and I do not doubt his efforts and advice. I suppose my concern is should owners really start playing around with Nissan Electronics when we all know what Happens when the S_ _ _ Hits the Fan and there is No Nissan Guarantee Backup. I am most probably being a little too cautious on this subject but that is just my opinion - Dave

The first thing I do after starting the engine is switch off the stop/start system. I never ever want to use it so this mod looks good to me. I read in one of the motoring mags a few years ago that unless the engine was stopped for longer than 6 to 8 secs you used more fuel on the restart than what you saved by idling. Lets be honest the stop/start system is a way to get the car into a lower tax bracket not to save fuel.
