Qashqai Model: Still looking for one....

Post by GeeUK »

Hi everyone,

I am looking for a family car as we are expecting our first child. I have had a look around and understand depending on the engine they have either a timing belt or timing change and the interval for changing them differ.

There is a Nissan 2014 Qashqai 1.6 dCi Tekna that we are interested in and when I queried as to if the timing chain had been replaced, they advised on this engine, it did not have to be changed. Now I can only find a schedule for the car from the South African Nissan website that states:

For MT model: Replace every 300 000km (180 000 miles) / 120 months. For CVT model: Replace every 160 000km (96 000 miles) / 240 months.

https://www.nissan.co.za/content/dam/Ni ... ashqai.pdf

It doesn't state the year, so I am not sure if the engines are the same from the earlier models to this one? The car we are looking at is a manual.

Can anyone confirm the schedule is the same for the UK?

Thank you in advance.

Welcome to this forum

The service manual shows "Every replace at 300,000 km (180,000 miles)/120 months"

However I'm not sure why there'd be a 10 year time limit - anyone know? Obviously the time limit is nearly up on the car being considered. I can't recall anyone replacing a chain at ten years even on older models.

I’m unable to answer your questions but I will suggest that you check the boot of the car quite closely, it isn’t a big as it seems and I know that having a small child along involves carrying a lot of “kit”

Good Luck

Thank you.

I believe that even though chains do not need to be changed at the same frequency as belts, they can stretch overtime. Maybe that has something to do with it?

The 10 year duration you mentioned is my concern, as the car we were looking at isn't near 180,000.

Thank you.

We will do! Seems to have more space that the Juke's we were looking at. Saying that, people seem to put down board and use extra space where you would usually find a spare wheel.

Definitely bigger than the Juke (I had one on 2014) but relatively small for the overall size of the car
