J10 2008 2L dci 4wd Auto (- / +) issue

Hi All. Can anyone advise please?
Last week we purchased a J10 2008 2L dci 4wd Auto with only 41k on clock which appears genuine from service history & general overall condition of the car.
On test drive I seem to have forgotten to try out the manual select (- / +) options on the transmission which now don't appear to work at all.
I can move the selector from - to + easy enough but the gearbox doesn't respond at all.
Driving in general automatic mode is superb, much smoother than my 2018 Mitsubishi L200 auto.
I can't seem to gleam a lot from the owners manual and would assume that there is some sort of visual indication on the dashboard to show me what gear I'm in? This doesn't appear to be working either?
Could this simply be an electrical component issue?
