Here is the "Daily Mail" article if of interest. :)
I must admit I am beginning to wonder how things are going to turn out with Diesel Vehicles. Over here the subject is almost a daily event in the news, banning of vehicles in Cities, road tests (not lab tests) and now the raiding of Management Offices from VW & Audi and continuing investigations. Now Nissan is being brought into the Headlines -Dave ;)

These recent reports are not really convincing enough. The number of test vehicles is far too small, only 2 or 3 in some cases. Are the tests done from cold or warmed up? Short runs, long runs or mixed driving? Are they brand new vehicles or are they run in? Do the results get worse as the car ages? These reports leave so many question unanswered.

gvmdaddy, in some respects I think you are correct but there are now official road tests being carried out here and even individuals are trying to collect data against VW using these tests just as some of the points you have mentioned.
Today is the next headline "Diamler", it looks like no stones will be left unturned on this subject it is really blowing up - Dave ;)

There are a few issues at play here.
The tests currently conducted to comply with the law are done in sterile conditions, not real on the road conditions.
The emissions limits....who decided them and on what basis?
Zero emissions is the only real answer to this problem, but its not going to happen.
This latest Daimler enquiry seems to be fraud related, similar to VW's recent history.
If the auto industry put as much effort into actively reducing NOx etc as they do into trying to sell more and more vehicles by using corrupt methods that indicate they are 'cleaner for the environment', then pollution levels would start to fall.
The auto industry and fuel industry need to work more together. Im sure the technology is already about somewhere, but its going to take a greater will to bring about real change at a much quicker pace.

I thought this was interesting this morning when I read a headline about Renault, it mentioned a possible Fine of 3,5 Billion Euros following investigations from the French Anti Fraud Agency (DGCCRF) that Renault have been manipulating their cars similiar to VW for 25 years. That is some Fine - Dave
