You could do with updating forum signature to show model detail/ year & your location :)
There is a J10 thread here for your model type.

I had the update performed on my Qashqai 1.5dci pure drive 3 weeks ago, now my mpg is down to 36mpg and there is a strange noise coming from the engine when I accelerate, I have been told that I should take it back to Nissan and explain to them what was happening. I did this and was told I needed to refill the car and keep a check on my mpg as I do it! If it is still a problem they said they would do a diagnostic test on the vehicle.
I will keep you posted.

Could you provide some information about the ECM update that was applied?

I have a 2012 1.5dCI that had an ECM update a few months back and I thought it sounded different after that. I started a thread here about it viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4294 . You'll find details of my update in one of the threads.

The noise seemed to be like badly adjusted tappets and was worse when cold and below 2000rpm. You could also hear it when the engine was underload e.g. accelerating. Over time the noise has become less and less. Now it just sounds like the normal diesel rattle when cold but purrs nicely when running at a reasonable speed. The difference in noise below and above 2000rpm is still noticeable but no longer worries me.

MPG seemed to be down a bit but is now back to normal, although it's possible that the method of calculating the average mpg has changed. I'm convinced that on a long journey over variable road types the average mpg goes down quicker on slow, bendy, hilly stretches and takes longer to come back up to normal on the straight smooth sections. If that makes sense. I didn't notice this previously.

Trouble is once you've had this issue you can get a bit paranoid about any different engine sounds. :) I've sometimes wondered if mine runs better under damp conditions i.e moisture in the air, than when running in dry conditions.

Of course the engine sounds really great when the batteries in my hearing aids die :D

Hi,
I have recently reset my mpg counter, it's gone up slightly, the noise seems the same, but I am going to persevere for a couple of weeks more and see how it goes!
Like spuriousfish it's better when the hearing aids die!
