Gel, Thanks another nice find the "Daily Mail" certainly seems to get the facts fast on Motoring. Nissan also placed a Press Comment on the 14.08. on their Newsroom on this Infiniti Engine and Autoblog USA also made a comment which is interesting. It looks like it will be presented at the Paris Auto Show - Dave :)

More to go wrong. Dual mass flywheels and DPF's were a good idea at launch

This isn't really a new thing. The DIG-S engine has a variable compression by altering the valve opening to run either otto or miller cycle (where it leaves the intake valve open for 1/3rd of the first part of the compression stroke) which seems a much more long term reliable way to do it! the DIG-S engine is *almost* there as well with its efficiency! They must have hit a dead point or limitation (such as its need for a supercharger rather than a turbo to prevent to much back flow out of the intake), and simply not scalable past a smaller engine?

As for derv.... the writing has been on the wall for some time due to much more harsher regulations and the emissions scandle. Even VW said they are looking at scaling down the derv engine development.
