Hi all.
Sure this has been asked before, but I cant find it in search.
Can people with petrol engines give me some advice on running in the engine with best results for not making it an oil guzzler.
Heard a few people say that running it hard reduces oil consumption due to oil scraper ring bedding in correctly from new.
Main useage is 20 minute short journeys with varied speeds.
The manual suggests
During the first1,600km(1,000miles),follow these recommendations for the future reliability and economy of your new vehicle. Failure to follow the recommendations may result in shortened engine life and reduced engine performance. • Avoid driving for long periods at a constant speed, either fast or slow. • Do not accelerate at full throttle in any gear. • Avoid quick starts. • Avoid hard braking as much as possible. • Do not tow a trailer during the first 800 km (500 miles)
Would do this anyway but have had diesel cars for the last 20 years and not sure how these new small turbo petrol engines need to be driven to get best results.

Have a new 1.2 N-Connecta and collected it with 6 miles on the clock.
Having had superbikes in the past from new I used to cap the rpm for the first 500miles then raise it 1k for the next 500miles etc etc until max revs are obtainable (maybe 3000miles).
Currently capping at 3k rpm till its done a few 100miles then slowly raise it.
Please please advise what you guys have done when running in. Apart from the above manual suggestions which I do anyway.
Having come from a diesel, I'm finding up to 3K revs very impressive. Looks like is going to be a great little engine if I can stop it turning into a two stroke..lol.
Many thanks in advance for any comments.

Running-in procedure.
Thanks, I am a sensible steady driver anyway. Just wondered if too steady ala diesel driving will be bad for this engine.
On normal driving what sort of revs do people change up a gear at? Currently finding 3k plenty with this engine so far for steady driving.

1.2 Dig-t N-connecta manual
My experience is normal type driving a bit of half decent revs now and then should not do it any harm. Being overly cautious is not good for it as much as too many revs. Good luck
All the best
