I spent a fair old chunk of Thursday cleaning and waxing the QQ, and then did my regular checks (lights, horn, wipers, oil etc) and whilst I was at it I thought I would have a look for the source of a noise that I have been getting intermittently at idle. So, engine running, I started listening under the bonnet and became aware that there was a louder sort of noise toward the passenger side of the car. A bit of fumbling about and I found two holes on the underside of the air duct that goes from the front of the car into the airbox - covering them with my fingers made for a much quieter engine bay.

I can only assume that these holes are to allow air warmed by the engine to be drawn into the air-box? Are they critical, or is there any way that they could be tubed/ported to reduce the noise of the airflow?
