jackdaww, I have also been trying to get to the end of this story on who makes what and where, but as you mentioned it is confusing. I picked up again tonight after reading your Post and found this information but it still does not pinpoint who or where the engines are manufactured. There appears to be several ranges of Engines as below for the QQ and it is all very confusing but obviously Nissan has the answers. It would be nice however just to know are they Nissan / Renault or Joint Built Engines and where. I have found some facts but these are obviously open to any comments or help – I tried my Best Dave :D

The entry-level powerplant is a 1.2-liter DIG-T with 113 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque, which replaces the outgoing naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine. Emissions are rated at 129 g/km, which is 15 g/km less than the 1.6-liter. Fuel economy is 50.4 mpg.

Next on the gas list is a 1.6-liter DIG-T that produces 147 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful engine in the lineup (the diesels have it beat for torque, though). Despite the increased output, CO2 emissions are just a bit above the 1.2-liter, at 132 g/km, while economy is identical at 50.4 mpg.

Opening up for the oil burners is a 1.5-liter dCi unit putting out 108 horsepower. It’s the cleanest and most efficient option, making only 99 g/km of CO2 and getting 74.3 mpg. It’s the sixth iteration of the engine, and is shared with Renault through a joint partnership. Torque sees a 15 pound-foot gain to a total of 191. The engine’s internals have been revamped to offer quieter operation and less vibration, with the removal of the upper torque rod eliminating a “potential noise path from the engine to the cabin.” The weight has also been reduced with lightened components.

Finally, a 1.6-liter dCi with 128 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque rounds out the engine options. This unit features a light, compact design, with a cold-loop, low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system that reduces nitrogen and CO2 emissions. It also has a quicker warm-up phase, which reduces friction losses and fuel consumption. The 1.6-liter diesel will put out 115 g/km and get 64.2 mpg.

The following is a Nissan Data Sheet and corresponds with table below it with regards to the Engine Code Nos :

Type 1.2 Petrol DIG TURBO 1.2 Petrol DIG TURBO 1.6 Petrol 1.5 Diesel 1.6 Diesel

These engines designated HR Engines appear to be manufactured by Aichikikai Japan (unless they are contracted out elsewhere in the world) and use the HR No System please see the list of vehicles below on their website :

http://www.aichikikai.co.jp/en/products ... index.html

The HR is a family of straight-3 and straight-4 automobile engines co-developed by Nissan and Renault. Renault calls it the H engine.
This is what I also found on the HR12DDT a 1.2 L direct injected turbocharged, straight-4 engine. It produces 85 kW (114 hp) and 190 N•m (140 ft•lbf).
Bore : 72.2 mm (2.84 in) ; Stroke 73.1 mm (2.88 in) ; Capacity : 1197 cc; 16v DOHC
It is fitted to the following vehicles: 2014 Nissan Qashqai / 2015 Nissan Juke / 2015 Nissan Pulsar

just had this tweet from @nissanuk

Hi David. Sorry for the delay. The DIG-T 1.2 in UK supplied Qashqai and Juke models are built in the UK at Sunderland. Thanks. ^JE

i find that a surprise , did not know they made engines there !

jackdaww, I think we are getting there at last here are a few more comments - Dave ;)

1.The Sunderland plant also has its own Castings Plant for manufacturing cylinder heads, a Unit Shop for petrol engine assembly, an Axle Plant for suspension fabrication, Plastic Moulding facilities for making bumpers and a lithium-ion battery plant which fuels Nissan's two all-electric vehicles, the Nissan LEAF and e-NV200.

http://newsroom.nissan-europe.com/EU/en ... ingUK.aspx

2.Casting shop : Aluminium engine components such as cylinder heads are produced in the state-of-the-art Casting plant.
Unit shop : 1.2 turbo, 1.2 supercharged, 1.6 and 2.0 litre petrol engines are built on-site on the Unit Assembly line. The cylinder heads and camshafts are machined along the machining line before being shipped to the Assembly line. The Unit Shop contains its own engine testing areas. Diesel engines are no longer produced at NMUK.

Dave, the specifications of the 1.6Dig-t does not compute.

The engine has 163bhp and a torque of 240 NM
