Engine Oil Usage
I check my engine oil every week and as yet with just over 7k miles it has not used any which I find strange considering my last 1.2 petrol yeti used 1 litre every 5k miles, what usage are others getting from their cars?
1.5dci, 3500miles, little if any, used.
You must be driving careful mate as oil burners burn oil when they pushed aboutbe careful the DPF is washed out by engine oil so the levels may stay same but the oil will deterioate so topping up in old days used to be of helpId say a litre every 5K if your pushing the engine about wouldnt be unusual but as ive said in these modern engines levels are not always what they seem
Cheers for the info Donkey.
When I last dipped it, the oil was only very lightly discoloured, in fact I was surprised because I was really expecting it to be almost black.
Regarding the dpf being flushed by the oil....ive been told different, cant remember who by though. I was told that there is a pressure sensor in the exhaust system and when it detects that the dpf is clogging up, deisel is injected into the exhuast to burn away the offending carbon particles. The resulting ash deposit either drops to the bottom of the dpf or is expelled from the exhaust when normal pressures are resumed.
Ill dip it again this weekend and see how it looks.

DPF basicly backflush themselves with neat diesel that should burn out the exhaust (defeating the point of having them as they dump all the waste on a fast road rather than tiny and slowly all time) but there is a percentage end up in the sump mate making regualr oil changes with right grade and good quality oil more essential nowadays than ever
Found this on dpf's
