I Posted this Information on Interior Lighting on Fri Dec 18th under "Interior LED Help" / "Bodywork & Interior". The easiest method is an LED Bulb change the light is better but the electrics is not so involved.
As mentioned please use the "Search" Facility as the Information has already been covered, this saves Members repeating the Information - Dave ;)

You could take a 12v feed off the back of the existing festoon bulb holder, then fit two LED strips, one up each side of the boot), connected in parallel to your feed wire. I would require some trim removal to hide the cabling, and a wee bit of soldering here and there, but it would definitely improve things.

I did this to a Passat that I had a few years back, and it made a significant difference.

Another compromise would be to consider mounting one of these (battery operated) ; won't come on automatically obviously but worth considering:

There are alternatives with photocell that only come in dark when a person's heat triggers lamps

I changed the single T10 bulb for an LED flat panel with 18 warm white 5630 SMDs
and a T10 adapter (I don't like the cool white)

It's not as yellow as the picture implies!

Had to file about 1mm from top and bottom for it to sit perfectly in the light housing.
