Just to carry the theme on sorry if this is boring but I find this Technology fasinating. This new technique apparently was inspired by the film Terminator 2, in which the T-1000 robot rises from a pool of metallic liquid. This new 3D printing technology by Carbon 3d looks like science fiction and the process harnesses light and oxygen and the process could make objects such as car parts, medical devices or shoes - Dave

The next new Material Graphene will soon be hitting the markets and was reported recently by the BBC. The product will be an LED Light Bulb, here are a few facts - Dave :

The first product made from the wonder material graphene will go on sale later this year a dimmable LED bulb which will reportedly cut energy costs and should last longer than conventional lights. Developed at Manchester University where Graphene was first discovered in 2004. It looks almost identical to a conventional light bulb but its filament is coated in a thin layer of Graphene which helps it to conduct electricity more efficiently. The physical properties of Graphene alone make it one of the most exciting discoveries of recent years. At one atom thick, three million sheets of Graphene stacked atop each other would measure just 1mm deep. Graphene is made from a single layer of carbon atoms linked together in a honeycomb structure, making it incredibly thin, light and strong. A 1m square sheet would weigh 0.77mg but be capable of supporting a weight of more than 4kg.

This is another 3D Print of a Chevrolet Camaro shown at the New York Int Show 2015 by Ioan Florea. I am not really sure where we are going with these type of Designs. No Comment - Dave

There are 1,000 parts on the
Airbus A350 XWB jet which have been 3D printed with materials that only
recently became available to use with the technique. This means the aircraft
has more 3D printed parts than any other before it. This technique enables new
lightweight materials to be used and produced to airline safety standards and reduced
production time and costs. The parts are manufactured by an US-Israeli Co. using
its Stratasys FDM 3D Production Systems.

The Co. CloudDDM has just unveiled a 3D printing
factory embedded in the heart of the UPS' worldwide hub in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. This
fully-automated facility will be able to use the tie-in to UPS to ship its
products quickly and they will handle all of the packaging and shipping
logistics. There are 100 high-tech 3D printers running 24 hours, 7 days a week"
and only three employees are required, one
for each of the eight-hour shifts.

Now if you show the wife this
one you could be onto a winner as her life could be made easier and you could end up getting some plus points or even getting
forced to help in the kitchen. Could be interesting in what they think !

This morning SpaceX completed the pad-abort test for their planned manned capsule.http://www.spacex.com/news/2015/05/06/c ... rt-testThe lift was provided by 8 super-draco rocket engines - made from 3D printed components. If 3D printing can produce parts for such high stress environments I think it might be here to stay

Beardyman, you have Hit the Nail on the Head here the more you follow these innovations the more impressive it gets. Indeed it is here to stay and this is basically the beginning and most probably no end is in sight. The wife keeps pushing me to buy one ?Y?? Dave

For the purposes of this car-based board, when it gets interesting is when they start using 3D printing for rapid prototyping of complete car engines. Just to trouble shoot new ideas.Personally, I think we'll be moving away from ICE engines to electric motors around that time but the prototype concept still works.

3d printing of engines already happens to prototype some race engines (IE Nascar). Although its none functional and only used to ensure that they have got things on the computer right before going building properly. https://myclassicgarage.com/social/post ... rt-1-video

0-100mph in 1.2 seconds!
If it had been manned then their teeth would have exited through the back of their heads!
They may have been 'alive' but they would not have been 'in great shape' as suggested.

Better shape than if they'd still been on top of an exploding first stage! The max G force was reported at "only" 6g. to put that into context, for the 6 seconds of acceleration, 10g is survivable without loss of consciousness for approx 50% of people.
