Hello dears

Did you notice any impact on the car performance? Higher air resistance, lower aerodynamic performance, lower aeration for the motor or for the turbo?

I waited until the warranty-running-out trip to the dealer before protecting the lower grill, and got a large stone through the gaps under the bumper last week. At first the dealer said it was the ac condenser, then the intercooler, then the ac and at last we agreed it was the intercooler and OK to drive it quietly, at least for a few weeks. GBP 1300 here plus fitting, but GBP 400 in the UK on Fleabay, so that will be in my suitcase returning from my next trip over, plus plastic grill mesh.
Don't hesitate, protect it NOW! :(
And thank you gloucester for the tip and photos. :)

I'd suggest it would be very difficult to detect any change in any of those parameters.

Good day all,
Placed also mesh in the gaping gap in front of the radiator. Some of the lamelles were already bit bent by smal stones. Hope to keep it in better shape now.

Michael, thanks for this post and solution, after reading the post from "gloucester" in Dec 16 I started to look at this solution. I got given a brand new Grill Section in Ally from a Guy that was going to modify his Honda CRZ. I started making up templates until I saw the option from Gloucester which looks far far easier. The problem is the difference in the "Diamond" Form, the QQ is approx 30mm x 15mm and the Ally is 12mm x 5mm. Now the reason I am holding off is that our TÜV (MOT) is due in July / Aug time and the Testers here are sticklers for paperwork and safety documents as it is not allowed to install certain parts without these. So I am waiting until I have the "Pass" and then I might attempt this - Dave :)

Hi Dave,

I got this idea from the Dutch forum (a member made a very nice pictured manual on the forum) and here. Seems that in the Netherlands they are not that strict about these items. In Finland i will see in 3 years what they will say about it :)
I did not have to take out the bumper only the cover on the top of the radiator.
Regards,
Michel

Michel, thanks for your comments on this. I did actually modify our Nissan Juke Tekna with similiar Ally Grills, but we sold it just before the TÜV (MOT) to get the QQ, but I must say we never got any negative feedback from our Dealer - Dave ;)

I inserted my plastic mesh as recommended last week. I cut it to intercooler size, removed the upper plastic grill, and bonnet release bracket, four nuts, and cut a chunk of the plastic foam which was in the way on one side, and could then slide the mesh down at an angle, bending it slightly. Two cable ties secured the mesh and contact adhesive stuck the foam back, while the rest went back as it was and I feel much happier about all the stones flying around. The slight stone damage to the intercooler seems not to affect performance, as they are designed to operate with at least 10% leaks, so crossing my fingers. ;)
