Thanks for all of the responses guys, glad I joined this friendly forum!!
I think I'll definitely talk it over with the dealer and see if they would be willing to install a small sub for me. I'd rather pay a bit extra and avoid any come backs in the future.

You should go far I must admit the thought of the new owner taking a screwdriver, let alone a soldering-iron to a £20k plus purchase fills me with wonder and amazement. Like you though these guys may well have caused me to change my mind about the audio. I completely like what I hear thus far but I'm not against improvement - look forward to literally hearing what the results are in due course.
Tekna CVT 1.6 Magnetic Red - born 4/4/14 P/X 25/10/2015 for £19k with 12,000 on the clock - great car but time to change. No problems whatsoever in those 18 month's.

If your going to go for a sub your better off going to a small dedicated shop that supplies audio stuff etcThere rates going to be cheaper than main agents and you get technitians familiar with audio systems rather than a aprentice with a manual Most these little outlets have guys who speak Dbs etc worth a call

Hi guys, got my old sub wired today. Very clean and deep sound. My sub is an MTX audio 8" 120W, nothing extravagant but does the job perfectly. It takes very little room in the big QQ boot and has a quick release 3 way plug fitted, so I can take it out of the boot if need be. The job has been done perfectly at discount-autoparts.co.uk in cambridge. They charged me £140 to fit the thing, including wiring kit, speaker level interface and labour. I know it sounds quite expensive but the interface was already £50, the wires about £20 and 1h30 labour. The work carried out is faultless and the sound has improved dramatically. Driving back this afternoon, listening to classic fm or planet rock on DAB was outstanding. Anyway just to let you all know, the speakers are V.good, the head unit excellent and the addition of a little sub lifts up the system to a new level and I would recommend it to anyone who loves good sound.
Of course its not cheap but like Dave said "if you want something, you've got to pay for it!"Philippe642014-04-11 17:57:32

Well took my qashqai into my local car audio dealer who's been trading for 25 years and knows his stuff. He had a good listen to the system and came to the obvious conclusion that it's rubbish, as in the case of most cars. Too much distortion, tweeters positioned in one of the worst places tight under the screen and no controlled bass. I did mention about a powered sub under seat and his opinion was you could but would be the wrong way of solving the problem. So I had a good listen to some focals speakers with amp and sub and wow what a difference just shows had bad the set up is in the car. After a long chat about options he recommended replacing front speakers and mounting tweeter pods in/on a pillars and putting a decent 4 channel amp in to run front speakers only for now.The options for now / later depending on budget are to add a boot sub run off the amp and a processor. He also said I could upgrade the back speakers but with the quality of the fronts really no need. I like some bass but for me it's about good clarity and intergration of the components. Now this is not cheap but can be done in stages, oh and then there is the issue of proper sound insulation etc etc just need to convince the other half and at the moment she thinks i am mad. Still lots of convincing to do

Ideal Ezz I dont think you can beat the little specialists and still think going that way will work out as cost effective as getting Nissan to do itI like the fact hes looking at replacing existing speakers something I considered at one point that way there is no external diffrence and car retains its looksOnly trouble is by expert standards you can blow a fortune lol but your way you can tinker as you go Insulation is a interesting aspect after all whatever speakers are used if you cant insulate the sound they wont return effectivlyI gotta admit tonight driving home Micheal Jacksons thriller was on radio and like a kid you have to crank up the Vincent Price part and I gotta say it didnt sound half badHad wife asking to turn it down as well as the kids who seem to prefer silence rather than my music againI updated my library now to Perry Como and there still not happyUngrateful i say

Yes your right Donkey you can spend a fortune it just depends how serious you are about it. Personally I would not go to a nissan dealer to sort out the audio upgrade at all. Find a specialist always the best way to go. I did ask him about it affecting the car warranty and it doesn't.
