Has anyone changed a J11 battery themselves?

As a matter of interest I wondered if anyone had changed the battery at their own expense for some reason?

(Appreciate these should have been done at Nissan's expense).

Had read some comments, that it's not a straight forward procedure needing the dealer to
code the battery to the car ie you can't fit yourself :? : .
When the time comes I'm sure many of us wouldn't look to the dealer for a £competitive$ battery

I think mine needed coding because it was an AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) type battery whereas the original is EFB (Enhanced Flooded Battery) . I don't know whether an EFB of the same spec would need any coding. Maybe a battery specialist could advise you if you dropped in.

Thanks Hound; it could of course just be one of those rumours such as the TPMS needing reprogramming if you change wheels. You don't of course.

Yuasa site says for my 1.5dci 'Note 1OE battery is EFB. Only replace with EFB battery'.
Does also state :( "Battery Needs reprogramming"
Why did you go for other type?

And yet Yuasa say that AGM is better suited to Start\Stop than EFB batteries...
AGM batteries are better suited to meeting the demands of higher specification vehicles that include one or more of the following technologies: Start Stop, Regenerative Braking and Passive Boost.

You might have read this before you might have not, but if you are interested take a look at this old post with a breakdown of the EFB Battery :

Here are some facts on the AGM Battery that Hound purchased, to me the comments look positive - Dave ;)

I've now read elsewhere on web that EFB can be replaced by EFB or AGM, but AGM must only be replaced with another AGM Dave.
I see Halfords here offer the reprogramming, but doubt a lot of the normal Tyre & Battery places will.

It's just what the RAC mechanic purchased and brought to fit, on instructions from Motability to sort out the car independently of Nissan. I didn't pay for it, and just accepted the mechanic's decision to upgrade to AGM instead of the flooded type battery.

I must say that the car seems much more eager to start, more than when it was new!
