I took a look at an article yesterday regarding Continental In-Tire Sensors. We already have the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) in the QQ and it now looks that in 2017 Continental will bring this system in. The system apparently has small sensors in the running area of the tire which measures pressure, acceleration which results in a calculation to give the thread depth. Here 1,6mm is the absolute minimium depth and when this is reached there is naturally an alarm. At present there is no statement on which Manufacturer will be the first to use this system - Hope you find this interesting Dave

Take a look at this it might help you with regard to the positioning of the Sensors - Dave

Intelligent tyres - there can't be a lot left to do with regard to the car taking over complete control of the journey. Hard to image around town on the daily commute but a run down the motorway, totally hands-free, must be very close to reality.

Tekna CVT 1.6 Magnetic Red - born 4/4/14 P/X 25/10/2015 for £19k with 12,000 on the clock - great car but time to change. No problems whatsoever in those 18 month's.
Google have amassed over 700,000 miles in their self-driving car experiments, and a few weeks back released a video which showed how far they've come. It was pretty good at assessing and coping with hazards - more info and video here

korky, I am glad you found that of interest as Safety should always be in the Fore Front.
PeterL, you are right it could be an OAP's dream plan your trip on the your home PC, get in the car and sit there and go - but how boring can that be ? Undoubtly with today's technology it will come. - Dave

Boring - I'm not so sure. If I was able to feel just the same as I do now sitting in front of my PC writing this and so feel completely detached from the journey it would be much the same as travelling on a train? Quite like the thought.
