I do a very low mileage, about 4000 a year and have found the Continental Tyres fitted have worn very poorly in the front, they will have done about 15000. Even worse I had a puncture when the car was nearly new and the tyre with just 3000 miles could not be repaired. As I do not drive fast and have such a low mileage I am thinking of fitting budget tyres. Can anyone recommend such a tyre from personal experience. Thanks for any advice.

What model/ tyre size. ?
You could do with beefing up your details in your signature area.

I have 225/45/19 96w's and fronts down to around 3mm, and I haven't done 11k yet.

Sorry, I am new to this. I have the same size tyres as yours on the 19 inch wheels. When I bought my car I had no idea that the wheels were 19 inch or so expensive. My previous car was a Primera which did 25000 on the front and 40000 on the back at a fraction of the cost!

there are cheap tyres out there, not sure I would feel very safe driving with cheap tyres though.

Just reading the comments on the Tyre mileage. Our QQ had Dunlops 225/45 R19's fitted when New and I have the paper ready for refitting the Summer Wheels which states 9000 miles and all Tyres have 6 > 7 mm of thread left. But do not forget that for 6 months of the year they are not in use due to the use of Winter Tyres. Most probably the situation is similiar to Gel's based on a yearly usage. Just some feedback - Dave ;)

Main dealer told me today, better to buy a cheaper brand than Continental, He said the £70ish ones are just as good for a QQ and should last longer. I'm hoping my new car lasts more than 25k miles on tyres...otherwise expensive to keep changing!

It would most likely pay you to have a look on the web and read up on a Road Test Comparison (Motor Magazine / RAC / AA for example) of Expensive compared to Cheap Tyres this is when you can see the Handling Characteristics based on your driving to make a decision. We all drive differently which results in handling and wear problems, but personally I would rather fork out and feel safe edging on the expensive ones, but the decision is yours in the end - Dave ;)

Have a look for Nexen SU1's. They seem to give good results for reasonable money (compared to others).

I have these on currently and they certainly give good grip.

Thank you for this advice. By a coincidence I had the Next SU1's fitted for £189 for the pair, at my local independent tyre fitter. I had to do an emergency stop on the M3 yesterday and was very impressed by their grip. At well under half the price of the Continentals they only have to do 8000 miles to be a better buy. I was disappointed to only get 16000 out of the Continentals. In nearly 60 years of motoring this is the first tyre not to have done 20,000 so I will be interested to see what the Nexen do. Again, thanks for you advice.
