Suppled spare wheel jack

I bought the spacesaver wheel when I took delivery of my 2016 Qashqai and thought I would do a dry run of using the kit so I would be ready if the time came. The kit comes with a black 17mm Wheel Brace and also a silver rod with a hook at one end and a large screwdriver at the other.

1. Which one is designed for turning the jack - in the pictures you can see that I tried both. Neither appeared fit for purpose. Although the wheel brace is fine for removing the 17mm wheel nuts.

2. What is the purpose of the hook and screwdriver on the silver rod?

3. Why does the black 17mm wheel brace have a slot in the handle?

Hope that I receive some guidance to help with the long winter ahead.
