Some interesting data on diamond cut wheels:Great care needed when having new tyres fitted.Common Problem With Diamond Cut Alloys
Diamond cut alloys are prone to corrosion issues. If your car has had
these alloys fitted from new then you may be able to claim for new
alloys under your warranty so long as they are not kerbed, please feel
free to call us for any advise relating to warranty issues as one of our
specialist areas is vehicle manufacturers warranty policies. White
specs will start to appear on the alloys normally around the area where
the bolts go or around the outer rim. They sometimes look like spiders
webs and then eventually as they get worse they blacken and start to
flake.
What Causes Corrosion on Diamond Cut Alloys
To understand what causes the corrosion you must first understand how
these alloys are manufactured. They are machine lathed and then a type
of plastic coating is applied over the lathed area. The coating is quite
brittle. When you have tyres changed the process used to remove the
tyres can break the seal behind the edge of the alloy. Once this seal is
broken water can get between the coating and lathed area and create
little white water marked areas. The corrosion around the wheel bolts is
normally caused when removing the bolts, if a torque gun is used it can
quite easily damage the plastic seal which then allows water ingress
between the plastic and the lathed area.

or even a simple wheel change as in Winter Tyres? As for getting them changed under warranty... who's kidding who?

These wheels look great, but yes they are prone to corrosion issues. I have some on my Octavia and after the first tyre change the edge must have got damaged due to the machine scraping the edge, three of them corroded very badly during a bad winter with flaking occurring. I could not get them back to a decent finish, so I eventually had them shot blasted and powder coated, they have been fine since.Sadly I think the QQ wheels will go the same way if we have bad winters with salt on the road

John, as you seem to have had experience before on this Type of corrosion issue do you think this would be coverable under the 3 Year Guarantee. I had Brock Alloys on my Note and one got damage on the 1st Auto Car Wash and corrosion took place and I also had it Shot Blasted & Powder Coated. Now just another point that has been worrying me, how are Tekna Summer Wheels stored in the Winter ? Now normally vertically in a Rack but if they are stacked horizontally one on top of the other nothing between them this could cause scratching - corrosion ! - Dave

Skoda would not accept responsibility for the corrosion stating it was the tyre fitting machine that damaged the outer rim that allowed water etc. to get behind the clear coat. It did look a mess by April time, I could not believe how quickly the "white worm" got behind the coating. To be honest I was not happy having diamond cuts on my car but like the style of the 19 inch wheels, I have already noticed a small defect on the silver part of the front wheel where a stone has chipped off the coating, I have put a touch up clear coat on it, but the spot is already somewhat darker. If I have problems I think I will go down the shot blast route again and have them all powder coated in all over black.

Mine are being powder coated satin black while they are off the car as I am currently running my winter wheels which have also been powder coated (pic in gallery under QQ with winter tyres - need to scroll down a bit to find it).

This is a link to where I had my Octavia wheels repaired, branches in major cities http://www.thewheelspecialist.co.uk/?ad ... df5cALgThe following comment relating to Diamond Cut Wheels is on their website; Diamond Cutting ServiceAlthough powder coating is The Wheel Specialist's most popular and durable alloy wheel refurbishment service, diamond cut finishes are also a very desired finish. Many cars are fitted with diamond cut finished wheels. The Wheel Specialist can reproduce this finish. Diamond cutting is a very precise process and takes longer to reproduce than a powder coat refurbishment.Corrosion in diamond cut wheels is very common, applying lacquer to a polished surface simply defies gravity it is very difficult to achieve a long lasting finish when applying lacquer to a shiny surface, small stone chips allow water in behind the lacquer and in time causes the lacquer to deteriorate and appear cloudy.Diamond cutting involves removing a thin layer of alloy from the wheel using specialist lathing equipment. Diamond cut wheels can only be refurbished a number of times as too much alloy would eventually be removed. You may wish to consider our powder coat refurbishment as a durable and long lasting refurbishment method instead. With our bespoke in house diamond cutting lathe we will provide you with the highest quality finish and the quickest turnaround time.Diamond cutting can be applied to the full face and lip of the wheel, combined with an application of base coat paint can produce some spectacular finishes. See some examples below

I was in the dealers today and the work shop manager has my tekna wheels back, all powder coated satin black, and ready to go on the car in March. It looked stunning and can't wait to see them on the car. Did not think to take a pic of the wheel he showed me but will put up a pic when the wheels are changed over.Ragna, I am trying to get the marker pen off the number plate!
