First week & 1000 miles - 1.6 DCI Tekna (2016)

Postby escargot » Fri Apr 15, 2016 2:21 pm

Hi all,

Thought I'd pop my initial thoughts on here!

Previously I had a Mondeo 2.0 TDCI but having grown bored of cooking saloons I decided a change was needed. I had the choice of another Mondeo, a basic BMW 320D Sport, that new C class hybrid or a Skoda Octavia VRS. So a bit of an eclectic range really. Having had BMWs and such like before, I felt that this time, I wanted something with more toys and the QQ ticked the box.

Approximately 14 weeks after placing the order, the QQ was delivered and so I bade farewell to the ever reliable Mondeo (actually a great car!)

I was attracted to the QQ in the first place by the quality feel of the interior and the overall chunkiness of the exterior design. It has quite aggressive styling for a crossover and whereas I didn't like the J10 QQ, I really DID like the J11. It was the panoramic roof that sold it to me though.

Actually, that's not quite true, it was my partner who threatened to mock me mercilessly if I ordered the boy racer Skoda Octavia with the ridiculous low profile alloys who sold it to me. And by sold, I actually mean threatened with menaces. At my age it was unbecoming. Apparently.

Anyway, she was of course correct, and lo' the day of delivery arrived.

First impressions were; wow, it looks brilliant. Better than I remembered in fact. Magnetic Red may not be everyone's cup of tea but frankly I was bored with the usual white, black or silver. Personally, I think Mag Red really accentuates the curves and lines of the car. Sod's law though, I must've seen a dozen Mag Red QQs in the 24 hours since taking delivery. I didn't realise that many people had such good taste. Unless of course, it was their wives/significant others choosing the colour as it was in my case.

First proper drive was the 30 miles or so home and that's where I hit a couple of snags. Firstly, the sat nav was all over the place. It showed me driving parallel to the road I was on, but a good 100 yards away. This problem got worse and worse until it showed me as being somewhere down south (I live up North!) Secondly, I couldn't work out how to use the cruse control. Press the button to activate then move the switch down; should be easy right? No. It just would not work! (I eventually figured it out - you need to take your foot off the clutch totally before setting cruise control otherwise it will not engage).

Other than those two points, the QQ drove very nicely. It's the 1.6 DCI so has a little bit more poke than the 1.5 DCI and the 1.2. It's not quick by any means but it's more than adequate. I can be quite a spirited driver and I don't notice any lack of performance from what you'd expect.

As I've covered more miles, I've found it loosening up slightly which is nice as it gives a bit more of a spritely feel. We covered quite a lot of miles over the weekend and the highlight was driving around Snowdon and Crib Goch where my son found it cool looking up through the roof at the mountains and waterfalls etc.

So, all in all I am very pleased with my new car. I'm pretty sure it's going to fulfil both duties (work hack and family chariot) admirably well. I reckon I'll probably do between 25-30k per year so it'll certainly be well used by the time I come to change it in 3 years. For now though, I'm just hoping that the dealer can sort out the sat nav!

Thanks for the feedback; if you look in "What's New" section of forum , a few new customers have had similar satnav issues. Possibly related to front quick clear screen elements.
Report to your local dealer who should have a fix soon.

Hi Gel, I'm embedded in that discussion already, but thanks for the pointer anyhow!

I have also found it's always useful to flag up on a tweet; Nissan Social Media team will often pick up, as they're
keen to get off the air asap :)

Good suggestion. I'll wait until I take it back to the dealer again and if I don't get any sense out if then, I'll escalate it from there!

Haven't drove it all weekend and I've found myself missing it!

Nice write up. Glad your enjoying the car. I am enjoying mine too. Shame I don't drive it a little more sometimes. Keep us posted how the sat nav issue gets on.
All the best
