There is the developement and testing of "Driverless" Trucks in the US & Europe and now another developement is in progress in Sweden between Scania Trucks & Siemens. This is the testing of an electrical system with the possibility of solving part of the Truck Carbon problem. They are going to test the first e-highway in Sweden take a look - Dave

Germany thinks it may have found the answer by using overhead lines to power big rigs - Dave
A system that allows trucks to draw electric power from overhead cables went into operation on 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) of the A5 autobahn on Tuesday. Developed by Siemens (SIEGY), the system allows big rigs with special equipment mounted on their roofs to connect to electrified lines while traveling at speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour (56 miles per hour).

Now comes the Driverless (with a Remote Driver) lorry which is allowed alongside public Swedish roads. Swedish transport regulators have imposed strict controls on the T-Pod's top speed and the distance it can travel. The lorry is limited to 5km/h (3mph) while mixing with human-driven traffic and can make trips between only two locations on an industrial estate. Seems restricted at present but it just shows what developements are around - Dave

To help solve the Truck Carbon problem it looks like a Test in the UK is now following on from Sweden / Germany with a similar system - Dave
Lorries powered by overhead electric cables could soon run on Britain's motorways as part of a push to 'decarbonise' road freight. Instead of polluting the air with diesel fumes, trucks could run like trolleybuses of years gone by, picking up cleaner power from above. The scheme could take place on a 2-mile stretch of the M180 near Scunthorpe
