There are obviously the Pros & Cons for Brexit and the vote is now "Out". Hopefully this is not going to affect the lives of the UK Car Industry Workers with less Investment & Job Losses - Dave

This exit still has a small chance of not happening.

There seems to be a lot of evidence of a massive f**k up, such as lying to the public etc. That mixed with a lot of stupid could just be a wake up call for change within the EU.

...heres hoping

I fully expect things to remain as they are (pun intended). In 2-5 years we'll have the same trade agreements with the European single market and the same free movement of labour. The only difference will be we'll have to pay extra for it (probably all be about 10% worse off as a result). Nissan are well placed to get their cars for Europe made in France so will probably keep the Sunderland factory up and running until it's outlived it's usefulness before opening a new factory in France. These things don't happen quickly but on a longer timescale it will all add up.

I couldn't believe Sunderland voted out. They've lost the steel and now voted to lose the Nissan plant eventually. Why do they think Nissan were here, exporting all these cars to Europe tariff free?

Just some comments from the "Beeb" on Brexit and the New QQ to be launched in 2020. I just hope that Nissan sticks with Sunderland. Sorry if this is boring but I try to keep up to date out here and the Beeb helps - Dave :)

Quotes from the "Beeb" :

Bidding is expected towards the end of next year or in early 2018 for the latest model of the Qashqai, Nissan's popular "crossover" vehicle. The new model would be slated for launch in 2020. Nissan has already committed to building an upgraded model of the current Qashqai in Sunderland and will introduce semi-autonomous driving technology into the cars for the first time.
It seems unlikely that the UK will have finalised its trading arrangements with the EU within that time frame. So under those circumstances, would Sunderland even be able to bid to build the latest Qashqai model? Or would the plant have to include potential trade tariffs into its calculations, driving up the costs of its bid?
The worry is that Sunderland could effectively be handicapped when it comes to the process of bidding for new work, referred to by one source as a "beauty competition". Uncertainty over tariffs is particularly significant, given that about 80% of Sunderland's production is exported.
The Qashqai is hugely important for Sunderland. It accounts for about 60% of the plant's output, and is the biggest car made in the UK by volume, according to industry body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Absolutely amazed the Sunderland turkeys voted for Christmas! Steel plants gone, only Nissan left as a major employer?
A friend who was very senior in Ford a few years back outlined the scenario for me; obviously Nissan won't shut up Sunderland and move to Europe, they may even extend the lines and put more money in. In the long term however, especially with the Renault tie-up, they will already be planning for the majority of future investment to be within the EU tariff-free zone - it's why the Japanese firm built a factory in the UK in the first place! On the surface things will continue to look good for the next few years but car companies think in 10 year strategic cycles. In time Sunderland will be used until any new investment isn't worth it then quietly shuttered. If 60%+ of the voters in Sunderland couldn't see his then they will have to live with it. Good luck.

Re BBC report: Yes Sunderland will carry on building QQ's for the next few years but I read a Nissan report where the next new model (Sway?) will be built in France. Although QQ's may be safe in Sunderland for the next couple of years Nissan has a policy of individual factories tendering to build new models - tariffs could affect that playing field. (as referenced in Dave's links)

Japanese companies of all industries are full of knee-jerk reaction. they will panic in the board rooms until they know whats on their horizon. The reality will probably be that nothing significant actually happens. the EU especially the car makers who make a ton of money from us poor overpaying brits will lobby the hell out of their respective governments to keep the same if not similar arrangement....its just common sense.

And maybe Dave can help out here but we have a German guy in our office and he was saying that there are a lot more serious crimes in Germany that are not overly reported as world news since Merkels asylum plan. This is causing a fairly big stir in the German UKIP-esque right. And as we are also seeing this nationalist movement in France and other countries, this might actually cause a massive change within the EU or could be the start of the breakup.

Either way, no-one knows whats going to happen and a healthy amount of skepticism should be taken on all fronts.

As for UK industry, I doubt anything can be done about steel. its a dead industry with countries like China being able to produce much cheaper products. Why would companies buy more expensive UK steel? that would hurt profits and I have never heard of a sentimental investor.

..just my 2 dinars.

Beardyman, with ref. to your comment on the "Sway". Could it be the 2016 New Micra which is supposedly based on the "Sway" Concept which is again supposedly to be built at Renault's Flins near Paris ? - Dave ;)

Craig, the German Guy in your office is correct there are problems here but when you look at the amount that have been accepted what can you expect but problems. Generally now these so called "Terrorist" actions are happening everywhere the world is changing unfortunately not for the Better - Dave ;)

Dave

Yes, it could well be the new Micra - I've been trying to find the reference but can't seem to locate it!
Thanks
