Nissan in Talks for Stake in Scandal-Hit Mitsubishi Motors. Nissan Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. said they’re in talks, including for a possible stake purchase, amid a fuel-economy ratings scandal that’s battered one of Japan’s smallest automakers. Mitsubishi Motors shares are set to surge by the daily limit when they resume trading. Nissan is seeking a 33 percent stake in Mitsubishi Motors, people familiar with the matter said. Sounds like it's now a done deal:

"Nissan will purchase a 34% stake in Mitsubishi, at a cost of 237billion yen (around £1.5billion). "

Carlos Ghosn had revived Renault and then was sent to revive Renault’s partner Nissan Motor, which had been unprofitable. By 2003 it had become the globe’s most profitable major automaker. Now as part of Nissan’s agreement in May to pay $2.2 billion for a controlling stake in Mitsubishi Motors, which saw its shares plunge 40 percent after a scandal broke in April, Ghosn is there again. As Chief Executive officer of both Yokohama-based Nissan and France-headquartered Renault he will need to quickly clean up Mitsubishi’s image - Dave ;)
