Could this be the cheaper variant to the Sporty Tesla, to me it does not look that bad - Dave :)

Nissan IDS Concept : Japan's affordable rival to the Tesla Model S ?
Nissan's concept EV can switch between autonomous and manual driving modes. Its projected price (around $40,000) will cost a fraction of the Tesla Model S, making it an affordable rival. The next generation of Nissan's Leaf is expected to look like the IDS.

This post did not seem to generate a lot of interest, but if you take a look at this information from Nissan on the IDS Concept and the videos included it might raise a few points for the future of Car Designs, Technologies and what they are trying to achieve. If interested then please take a look – Dave ;)

Japanese car maker Nissan unveiled its “vision of the future of autonomous driving” at the Tokyo Motor Show, with the Nissan IDS Concept. Nissan said that it’s “well on track” with plans to “equip innovative autonomous drive technology on multiple vehicles” by 2020, a goal it had initially set for itself two years ago. A big focus of Nissan’s concept is on car-learning and its ability to imitate a driver’s style. Humans will still be able to drive such driverless or autonomous cars, but the option to hand over complete control to the vehicle is what makes the new technology — which companies like Apple and Google are also working toward — revolutionary.
Nissan said. “But the Nissan IDS Concept promises a very different vision of tomorrow. Even when the driver selects Piloted Drive and turns over driving to the vehicle, the car’s performance — from accelerating to braking to cornering — imitates the driver’s own style and preferences.”

Well, if i will be a contender of the Tesla S the future will tell. I guess this car is on a very different level though.
By the time this Nissan is o the market Tesla will have itś cheap MODEL 3 version in production. Pricerange about 35K

The model X recently was launched. So now the 3 gets all the attention.

Btw, the sensors of my QQ do not generate much trust for a nissan autonomous driving version.

I like the styling, apart from the fake wood panels.

Love the doors - Mrs Hound has a Vauxhall Meriva with similar type doors which are pretty cool. It does have a B pillar though.

I'd certainly be tempted by an all-electric vehicle if I felt comfortable about its range. I don't need the Tesla's sports acceleration, I want QQ-type practicality and the capability to haul a crossover over a reasonable distance. As for autonomous driving... well we shall see!

IDS... isn't that Iain Duncan Smith??

Just a few more facts on interested parties of Google's Self Driving Car Technology, it looks like interest is picking up - Dave ;)

Google’s self-driving car technology is attracting top U.S. automakers, as Ford, Fiat Chrysler and General Motors talk with the company while laying the groundwork for a future with autonomous cars. Ford Motor Co. and Google are discussing working together, including in a joint venture to build cars using Google’s technology. General Motors Co., are also very interested in exploring ways its manufacturing skills could complement Google’s system. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, have stated in the past few months that the company wants to work on autonomous driving with technology companies such as Apple Inc. and Google.
Automakers are getting close to Google as they consider using the search giant’s technology to add brains to their vehicles, instead of building their own rival systems.

Some more Developements being put into practice on Self Driving - Dave ;)

The first driverless cars to be tested on the streets of London will resemble the electric passenger shuttles currently in use at Heathrow Airport. You may have seen these running from the Car Parks to T5. The group behind the project is currently adapting the pods for use on the roads but have confirmed that the adapted vehicles will not run on dedicated tracks. Greenwich is one of four places in the UK where driverless pods and public reaction to them are being tested. Trials will also take place in Bristol, Coventry and Milton Keynes. The £8m project is jointly funded by government agency Innovate UK and industry.

Dutch partners Robot Care Systems and the Technical University of Delft introduced two six-passenger automated vehicles into service on Thursday that could replace standard buses on unprofitable routes. The trial will provide a push to efforts to set up European Union rules for the technology. The WEpod is a fully automated electric powered self-driving vehicle without steering wheel or pedales and is due to start operating on public highways later this year. The models, supplied by French-Indian venture EasyMile, can travel as fast as 40 kilometers (25 miles) per hour, but they’ll be limited to 25 kph for safety reasons, and initially won’t be operated when it rains or snows or at night,
