As much as I think my Tekna is the bees knees, I can't imagine it's particularly attractive to such a villain when they can just as easily nab a top of the range Range Rover. Or any other luxury car with keyless entry

Still wishing they'd call it the Nissan Rogue.

Toxteth, do not forget it is not always the Car they are after it is the parts and accessories when the car is stripped and the parts sold in Eastern Europe. Some parts are even stolen to order such as Navi's / Air Bags / Lights etc... and sold in big car markets or even appear on certain websites. So essentially no car is safe when there is a quick Buck to be made - Dave ?Y?«

I'm no electronics expert, but can say that without doubt the vast majority of cars stolen from driveways are as a result of 2 in 1 burglaries, where the sole aim is to break into your home just to steal the car keys.Jhare2015-04-17 18:26:32

Whoops ! is this Problem beginning to widen ? - Dave
Anti-theft devices found on millions of cars are vulnerable
to a "trivial" attack. It
has been found that the encryption system used in many car immobilisers can be
cracked, potentially letting a thief steal the car. Vehicles made by 26
separate car firms including Volkswagen, Porsche and Honda use the
"weak" security system.

Sorry ! I forgot this article as to me this makes very interesting reading - Dave
VW Has Spent Two Years Trying to Hide a Big Security Flaw. Got a VW,
Fiat, Audi, Ferrari, Porsche or Maserati ? Then you might want to check
the model. Thousands of cars from a host of manufacturers have spent
years at risk of electronic car-hacking, according to expert research
that Volkswagen has spent two years trying to suppress in the courts. "Keyless"
car theft, which sees hackers target vulnerabilities in electronic
locks and immobilizers, now accounts for 42 percent of stolen vehicles in
London. BMWs and Range Rovers are particularly at-risk.
The Megamos
System is one of the most common immobilizer transponders, used in
Volkswagen-owned luxury brands including Audi, Porsche, Bentley
and Lamborghini, as well as Fiats, Hondas, Volvos and some Maserati
models. Luckily Nissan is
not included in this Listing.

Given how wide this issue seems to be, I highly suspect that Nissan's with keyless entry and stop/start will also be vulnerable. Question is, given that these issues have been known for a while, did Nissan implement fixes for the problem in their later cars... or are they still using the same tech from the early days which may include vulnerable code/back doors? In an instance where the car is vulnerable , I wonder where you stand in terms of the sales of goods act in obtaining a refund or suitable replacement. Software is generally exempt from the SOGA, however as its tied into the car as an overall product.....
