ShinyAndy, I do not think that this is a load of nonsense. I read earlier in the year about changes to laws eg. Safety Vests some Countries like here you must have one in others you have to have one for each Seat in the Car. Also you will find in Spain that you have to have two Warn Triangles which must be used for example on normal roads one front, one at rear. I think if you read these facts up you will be surprised - Dave

I've lived here for 7 years, it has always been the law that you need the warning triangles/vests. The speed limit is not 130kph on motorways and the fines they have mentioned are complete lies - you would not be fined 325 for going 1kph over the limit. It is typical DM propaganda to make people stay in the UK. I still have my UK licence and never had points taken from it

ShinyAndy, after I sent my reply I remembered you lived out there and I thought you would be wise to the ins and outs of the Police there, but a lot of these Laws are new to the UK holiday makers - Thanks Dave

Most UK holiday makers would be hiring a car anyway, these come with anything you might require by law. As said, the rest of it is complete nonsense! If you're interested then the main points to the actual changes in May were this:All cycle riders under the age of 16 must wear a helmet in urban areasBicycles can travel slower than any imposed minimum speedSmall children (under 1.35m tall) may not ride in the front seat of a car or taxiChildren and babies under 15 kilos must be restrained in an approved car seatRadar detectors are now illegalIt was proposed that the speed limit on some stretches of a few motorways be increased to 130km/h - this has not been rolled out yet and is probably unlikelyDrug (recreational) use while or before driving is illegalFines for drink driving are now higherPedestrians caught violating traffic regulations, such as crossing the road in the wrong place will be obliged to submit an alcohol and drug test.Speeding is a bit more complicated but this explains it perfectly (multa is fine) - so yes you can get fined for going 1kph over the limit but you would only get a 100a‚¬ fine and no points:LAmite2030405060708090100110120130MultaPuntosExceso velocidadGrave21403150416051706190711008111091120101130111140121150131150100a€“415051606170718091110101120111130121140131150141160151170151170300251606170718081901111201211301311401411501511601611701711801711804004617071808190911001211301311401411501511601611701711801811901811905006Muy grave7181911011311411511611711811911916006There is a 50% discount on fines if paid within 20 days (raised from 15 days)If a driver is fined for any motoring infraction the vehicle can be immobilised
