We had an annoying rattle which we (the wife and I ) were convinced was coming from the dashboard. Then we noticed it was almost always when the wife was driving, but not me. Turned out to be my sunglasses in the bin in the middle. I always wear my sunglasses when driving ( an eye condition) except at night. The point was it didn't sound like it was coming from there at all.

nissandan, the black foam is attached to the edge of the dashboard to bridge the gap between it and the windscreen. It is most visible at the centre of the screen and tapers off gently until it drops out of site, roughly on a level of the end of the dashboard speaker. Hope this helps.

Maybe fitted incorectly when built (unlikely). Possibly dislodged if a replacement windscreen has been fitted. Previous owner may have pushed it down attempting to route cabkes for a speed camera radar or dashcam or similar.
