Driving along a dual carriageway yesterday I heard a clatter underneath the car 65 plate. Looked in the rear view mirror to see lots of black debris behind me.
I pulled in at a safe place to examine the car. I have found out the engine under tray has fell off.
How is this possible and will it be covered under warranty.
Metal clips still in place as shown in pic.

I guess you have had the car serviced at some point? Chances are they may have had to remove it to drain the oil & did not correctly re-fit it. Just a guess.

I think the challenge will be establishing proof that it was faulty in the first place. Did you recovered the pieces? If not I can't see you can refute a garage's claim that it was damaged by contact with kerbs, rocks, etc. Even if you have the remains, can you establish a cause? Do one or two of the fixing points seem not to have had fixings? (I doubt you have a pre-incident photo of it...)

The car was only bought 2 months ago. Serviced by Nissan 2 days before it was picked up. My wife uses the car daily around 9 miles a day. It was its first run out on a dual carriageway at speed. My thoughts are it was incorrectly fitted after service. Lets see what they say. Either way I will not be paying for repair. The car is still under warranty.

If you hit a big puddle it can take the under tray off......................

If the fixing bolts are missing it would suggest that the tray has been incorrectly fitted after the last service i.e. the bolts not tightened!!

From the photograph the clip nuts are not distorted so the bolts have not been ripped out.

Tried an M6 bolt in the front fixing points. All 4 are still threaded suggesting bolts were missing after service. I need to try and find the other fixing points to check if the bolts are intact before I take it in on Wednesday.

Going to be interesting to hear how the dealer is going to explain this one. It could be the bolts on your brakes next :o
