All the time! I don't like the idea of being 'tied' into an arrangement though.

50k miles / 4 years = 12.5k miles on average, which is about average isn't it? Nothing to be worried about there is there?
rod9669 wrote:Think previous owner - low mileage could equal dpf problems, for example
This is a good point which I hadn't considered. I knew my high mileage meant dpf wouldn't be relevant but had overlooked that the low mileage I sought meant that dpf could already be a problem. Oh no. Back to square 1!?

Low mileage J10 may have dpf issues but no need to worry about it with the J11, they really have overcome the problem.

You said you do 25k / annum in your opening post, not 12.5

IMO, cars these days have more to go wrong, and the older they are the worse they'll get.

Look at this post - 61 plate.

It's not just DPF's - electrical problems are likely to happen - any warning light on the dash, such as tyre pressure monitoring, will be an MOT fail

Good luck, but have a serious think. I'm paying £285 a month for a 1.5 NTEC+ over 2 years, 12,500 / annum. After 2 years, just get another one (not a QQ ;) )

I do. The 12.5k was to illustrate that if i'm buying a 4 year old car then an average mileage of 50k on the clock (12.5k a year) seems normal.

Ok so back looking at leasing (!) - 1.5 N-Vision, £3,036 down (value of my current car ), on 4 year deal with 25k mile allowance = £253 (or £267.26 over 3 years). Not bad at all (and lower than the £266 per month i had budgeted to repay a 0% loan to finance buying a 2nd hand car... albeit with a £6k asset at the end). But a new car and the associated warranty versus a depreciating asset - the former looks better than the latter.

Also, what do you mean by not a QashQai?!

Why put down so much? I've got a 3+23 deal - 3 months deposit up front, then 23 months of payments. So, my deposit was only £855 - use the rest of your 3K for a nice holiday ;)

When I took out the deal with Nationwide Vehicle Contracts (I have no affiliation, just appreciate good value for money and customer service) I declared 12.5k / annum, now doing closer to 25k so will end with approx £1k mileage penalty

I'll have no car to show for it at the end of the 2 years but if I'd have bought a brand new QQ at £25k it probably wouldn't be worth 16 k after 2 years anyway

Not a QQ - TBH I was attracted by all the toys for a low price, and the equipment level is very good. But IMO the build quality just isn't there - there's a lot of road / wind noise, the drivers seat clunks when I go around corners (but the dealer can't find anything wrong), the 1.5 doesn't have enough torque low down, I could go on but I'll be looking at an X-Trail or Hyundai next (whichever has Android Auto built in)

Thanks for the info. I was looking for a high deposit to get the monthly cost down but hadn't considered deliberately lowballing the mileage to pay the excess. I've heard good things about the Tucson...

It wasn't deliberate - check your excess mileage charge. I think I was lucky at 4.6p/mile

To bring down the monthly repayments... Whether you go low on the down payment to have higher monthly repayments or the other way around you still pay the same total amount at the end of the lease. For me, lower repayments are better for cash flow and it makes sense to put down what my current car is worth (although a holiday is always tempting!)
