Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Thanks to all your comments regarding dipstick smearing. I will try these suggestions, but it is pity that the dipstick has this unfortunate design. In my other car - an older Nissan Qashqai with 2.0 L MR20DE engine the dipstick does not have this problem and oil level can be easily inspected either...

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Hello everyone, I wonder if you have any problems to check your oil level given the design of a dipstick tube: it seems to be twisted and when you pull it out, the oil is smeared thus given an imprecise reading. At least this is on Pulsar with 1.2 DIG-T. Is there any gotchas on how to get the precis...

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Hello SplanK, Very interesting as mine is as per quote where C3 oil is recommended. Even Opioils suggested that I should use C3 based oil! I will see if I can take a picture later. I had my Pulsar serviced recently and I was very demanding to tell me which oil was used. They told me Elf Evolution RN...

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

jackdaw, As discussed before in this thread. Oil which passes through piston rings will end-up in combustion chamber, after that it will end-up in catyliser (causing irreversible damage to CAT) and then it will go further via exhaust thus causing the following problems: - emission tests failures - C...

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Yes, my manual page looks exactly like this but in French :) In fact, it is good thing that they spec 5W-40 A3/B4 here. These oils do have a high HTHS and good amount of zinc and are exactly what our tiny flat tappet and very hot engines with turbine need ...

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Hello SplanK, If you look in the handbook, it specifies C3 oil for the 1.2DIG-T: HR2DDT engine: Genuine NISSAN engine oil 5w30API SL or SMILSAC grade GF-3 or GF-4 ACEA A1/B1, A3,B4, A5/B5, C2 or C3 Mine only specs A3/B4 5W-40 for 1.2 DIG-T engine. Also, if I use any oil lube guides (Shell, Castrol, ...

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

In fact, even slight consumption is not a good thing because these engines are spec'ed for Full SAPS oils (ACEA A3/B4) and when this oil is consumed it will most likely end-up in catalyzer which will shorten the life of the CAT. More on this can be found here: https://www.amsoil.com/newsstand/auto-a...

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Can anyone record the noise? I am actually starting to hear something unusual on the right side of the vehicle (when sitting on the passenger seat) but I cannot confirm that my car consumes any oil at all, I thought that perhaps this sound is a typical flat tappet engine sound ...
